So you want to call a colleague right now?
Our new UI/UX designer has done great work surveying users about our mobile functionality and asked for feedback and ideas for new and improved functions. We are currently digesting a lot of good ideas.
The most interesting and passionate feedback we received, however, is related to asking for some functions we actually already have that users are not aware of. In particular in two areas:
Being able to call or SMS colleagues directly from the roster page when using HosPortal on a mobile phone, rather than looking people up on the staff page.
Changing view settings to show rosters in a personal way.
Both of these are things you can do right now, and the way to make sure you can do both of these things are related.
See the three images below, which are screenshots from a mobile phone.
If you are on your mobile, almost anywhere you see a mobile number you have the option of using the green ‘call’ and blue ‘SMS’ buttons like you see in Screenshot 1. This screenshot is the ‘shifts of today’ panel that all users see on their dashboard. If you don’t see mobile numbers it is because your roster administrator has not turned them on…go ask them.
But you do not need to talk to an administrator to have complete control over how you view the main roster pages the way you like. You can change the layout, filter to only show certain activities or prople, show staff full names and see mobile numbers by changing your view settings:
Click the ‘cog’ icon like you see at the top left of Screenshot 2
Explore the various settings that you prefer. On a mobile device you may want to just see one day at a time rather than a whole week. You can see mobile numbers by turning on the ‘show phone numbers’ option.
Make sure you save your new settings by scrolling to the bottom of the settings menu and giveing your settings a name (e.g. ‘my mobile view’). You can have as many saved views as you like.
Although you will see phone numbers on the roster pages, we do not usually show the green ‘call’ and blue ‘SMS’ buttons there as it makes the view cluttered and confusing. Instead, once you have turned on the phone numbers, you can click into any shift to bring up the full details of the shift like in Screenshot 3: the call and SMS buttons are now visible next to each person’s name: press the relevant button and you can call or SMS the person immediately without having to look up their profile.
If you set up and save your views appropriately you can call anyone with 2 presses of a button. Easy.
