Rules
Rostering is complex, and there are always limitations on who can work where when. HosPortal has 4 types of rules that allow you to create every possible rule you need to satisfy your enterprise agreements, safe working rules, your local conventions, and of course, to make everyone’s work safe and pleasant. Our system is almost limitless, but we show a few examples here.
1.Conflict Rules
Shift conflict rules allow you to in essence say “if someone is doing this shift at this time, they can’t do that shift at that time“
"You can’t do a day shift the day after a night shift”
“Consultants can’t do on call on Monday or Tuesday after they’ve done a weekend on call shift”
“After a 1st on call shift, consultants can only do an admin shift the next morning”
2. Work Rules
Work rules look at all the shifts a single user does over a timeframe, and marks a conflict if they exceed a threshold.
“Trainees must not work more than 40 hours per week”
“All staff must work no more than 2 weekends per month”
“Staff must not work more than 6 consecutive days”
“Consultants should work no more than 2 public holidays each calendar year”
3. User conflict rules
User conflict rules allow you to prevent to users or types of users working the same day or at the same time.
“No more than 1 intern should work on the same day on the weekend”
“Mary and John Smith cannot be on call at the same time as they have small children to care for together”
“Darryl and David prefer not to work together”
4. Leave Shift Conflict Rules
Sometime its important to forbid certain shifts before or after leave. Our leave conflict rules allow this.
“No evening shifts the day before leave starts”
“No on call shifts the week after registrars return from leave”
See users leave easily
Dedicated leave page shows all leave along with status and type for all users. Leave is also shown on roster pages.

When placing users on shifts, either manually, or from templates, any conflicts with leave is easily visible.
